Convocation XIII – National Metropolitan Contest on Poetry – Metropolitan University – Cultural Extension
The Metropolitan University through the Cultural Extension calls for the XIII National Metropolitan Contest on Poetry:

1.- All young National Colombians can participate in this contest.
2.- A minimum of 12 poems (unedited) must be sent and a maximum of 24, on 8x11 pages, double spaced to the following address: Extensión Cultural - Universidad Metropolitana, Apartado Aéreo 50576. 
3.- The poems must be sent in the original form with 2 copies signed with the pseudonym attaching a sealed envelope plus a brief biographical sketch about the author with information of your address and document of identification.
4.- The prize will be $800,000. Pesos and is to stimulate the literary creation and the promotion of poetry for this national territory.
5.- The XIII edition of this contest opens on May 14th, 2008 and closes on January 30th, 2009.
6.- The winner will be published on March 30th, 2009.

Convocation –National Metropolitan Contest on Stories Metropolitan University – Cultural Extension – Barranquilla
The Metropolitan University through its Cultural Extension calls the XXX National Metropolitan Contest on Stories according to the following bases:
1.- All young people, new writers and all those who have Colombian nationality can participate in this contest.
2.- The entries must be sent to: Extensión Cultural, Universidad Metropolitana, Apartado Aéreo No. 50576, double spaced on plain paper 8x10 and unedited with 2 copies.
3.- The story must be signed with a pseudonym and closed in an envelope and apart from this, the person will give the title of the story and the corresponding name of this pseudonym with a brief biography of the author, the number of the I.D., telephone and address.
4.- The prize is $1,000,000. (a million Colombian pesos) . This prize is an effort given by The Metropolitan University to be a stimulus to the literary value and the work of writing among young people in this national territory.
5.- The contest is open as of the date of publication of this notice and closes on December 30th, 2008.
6.- The winner will be known through a special act given in Barranquilla at The Metropolitan University on February 20th, 2009.
7.- The jury will be known shortly.
8.- The Assistant Dean of The Metropolitan University part of the jury proposes the publishing of the winner in the journal “the Espectador” obviating an manipulation of the prizes given.  Therefore, all of the content of the authors will be available for review. (Critics, professors etc.).

The prize will be considered under 5 criteria taken into account at the time of judgement based on: narrative quality, original investigation, treatment with profundity, ethical values reflected in the work and creative advantage of the resources through this media.

Some people think that the day to day events of a person one cannot do this work with these characteristics; nonetheless, those who have won think the opposite.  For example, Guido Moreno, the winner of the Radio contest in the 4th Convocation said that journalists have the tools to do good work every day but they do not use them permanently. “Muerte en la basura”, the work Guido won with was taken from his every day job.
