EIS MEASUREMENTS FOR EVALUATION OF CORROSION INHIBITORS FOR CO2 UNDER MULTIPHASECONDITIONS

Abstract: This paper presents a study of electrochemical behavior of carbon steel AISI-1020 in a multi-system, saturated with carbon dioxide (CO2) with and without inhibitor, using the technique of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was determined by the efficiency of two inhibitors: didecilamina and octadecanoic acid. The experiments were conducted in a circuit simulator “flow loop”, which was designed and built with polymer CPVC pipe. The system has a recirculation pump, a tank fiberglass coated with a polymer, a heating system equipped with a temperature controller. The system was evaluated in constant temperature and speed. It proposes an equivalent circuit model to describe the process of corrosion under conditions of flow multiphase with inhibitors used. The results show that the technique EIS can be used to study the mechanisms and the effect of corrosion inhibitors in turbulent multiphase flow conditions.

Resumen: Este artículo presenta un estudio del comportamiento electroquímico del acero al carbono AISI-1020 en un sistema multifásico, saturado con dióxido de carbono (CO2) con y sin inhibidor, usando la técnica de espectroscopia de impedancia electroquímica (EIS) mediante la cual se determinó la eficiencia de dos inhibidores: didecilamina y ácido octadecanoico. Los experimentos se desarrollaron en un circuito simulador de “flow loop”, el cual se diseñó y construyó con tubería de material polimérico CPVC. El sistema cuenta con una bomba de recirculación, un tanque en fibra de vidrio revestido con polímero, un sistema de calentamiento provisto de un controlador de temperatura. Se evaluó el sistema a temperatura y velocidad constantes. Se propone un modelo de circuito equivalente para describir el proceso de corrosión bajo condiciones de flujo multifásico con los inhibidores utilizados. Los resultados muestran que la técnica EIS puede utilizarse para estudiar los mecanismos y el efecto de inhibidores de corrosión en flujo multifásico turbulento.
