STUDY OF RAIL VEHICLE DYNAMICS IN CURVED TRACKS. PART I: WHEEL-RAIL CONTACT ANALYSIS

ESTUDIO DE LA DINÁMICA DE VEHÍCULOS FERROVIARIOS EN TRAMOS CURVOS. PARTE I: ANÁLISIS DEL CONTACTO RUEDA-CARRIL

Abstract: The present paper outlines the different methodologies used to analyze the dynamics of rail vehicles in curved tracks. The modelling of wheel-rail contact includes the study of the status of normal, longitudinal and tangential forces based on nonlinear hertzian contact theory and Kalker’s theory. Generally, the rail vehicle is considered as a set of overlapping rigid bodies, linked to each other by elastic systems and shock absorbers which have performance characteristics correctly defined. Additionally, a comparison between the conventional theories and the formulation based on multibody dynamics is exposed.

Resumen: El presente trabajo esboza las diferentes metodologías empleadas para el análisis de la dinámica de vehículos ferroviarios en tramos curvos. La modelización del contacto rueda-carril incluye el estudio del estado de fuerzas normales, longitudinales y tangenciales basado en la teoría no lineal de Hertz y en la teoría de Kalker. Generalmente, el vehículo ferroviario es considerado como un conjunto de masas superpuestas rígidas, ligadas entre sí por sistemas elásticos y amortiguadores que poseen características de funcionamiento bien definidas. Adicionalmente, se expone una comparación entre las teorías convencionales y la formulación basada en la dinámica de sistemas multicuerpo.
