STUDY OF RAIL VEHICLE DYNAMICS IN CURVED TRACKS. PART II: TRANSVERSE STABILITY OF THE COACH

ESTUDIO DE LA DINÁMICA DE VEHÍCULOS FERROVIARIOS EN TRAMOS CURVOS. PARTE II: ESTABILIDAD TRANSVERSAL DEL VAGÓN

Abstract: Experience shows that, from a certain speed, a railway vehicle running in a curved track becomes unstable. In the case of the transverse union between the body of the coach and the bogie, such instability is characterized by a violent movement of the bogies, resulting in the wheel-rail contact zone important cross and normal forces, which may cause the derailment of the train. This article summarizes the theoretical and experimental analysis associated with the instability of a railway vehicle in curved tracks, with special emphasis on its dynamic and vibrating behavior.

Resumen: La experiencia muestra que, a partir de una cierta velocidad, un vehículo ferroviario circulando por una vía curva se vuelve inestable. En el caso de la unión transversal entre el cuerpo del vagón y el bogie, dicha inestabilidad está caracterizada por un movimiento violento de los bogies, produciendo en la zona de contacto rueda-carril fuerzas transversales y normales importantes, que pueden provocar el descarrilamiento del tren. El presente artículo sintetiza los fundamentos teóricos y experimentales asociados al análisis de la inestabilidad de un ferrocarril en tramos curvos, haciendo especial énfasis en su comportamiento dinámico y vibratorio.
