PROPOSAL TO USE ADAPTIVE CONTROL IN WATER CHILLERS FOR USE IN VAPOR COMPRESSION REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS

Abstract: The present work evaluates a self-contained air condition refrigeration unit (5 TR; 17.5 kW). In order to realize the experimental evaluation and analysis, evaporator is operated with water instead of humid air, as secondary fluid. Normally the self contained refrigeration unit uses “on-off” control and a fixed compressor rotation. This paper evaluates the possibility of using adaptative control, instead of on-off control, actuating on a Variable Speed Drive that operate the compressor, several experimental analysis were made, looking forward the selection of the best control strategy, with system operating in partial charge mostly; paper shows results obtained and future works to be realized.

Resumen: El presente trabajo evalúa unidad de aire de refrigeración autónoma (5 TR; 17,5 kW). El evaporador es operado con agua en lugar de aire húmedo, como fluido secundario con el fin de realizar la evaluación y análisis experimental. Normalmente, la unidad de refrigeración autónoma utiliza un control “on-off” y una rotación fija de compresores. También se evalúa la posibilidad de utilizar el control adaptativo, en lugar de control “on-off”, con el accionamiento de un variador de frecuencia que opera el compresor, fueron realizados una serie de análisis experimentales, atendiendo a la selección de la mejor estrategia de control, con el sistema operativo en carga parcial en su mayoría; el trabajo muestra los resultados obtenidos y los trabajos futuros a realizar.
