STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOR OF INDUCTION MOTOR DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO A LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL NETWORK VERSUS VOLTAGE SAGS

ESTUDIO DEL COMPORTAMIENTO DEL MOTOR DE INDUCCION CONECTADO DIRECTAMENTE A LA RED DE BAJA TENSION FRENTE A HUECOS DE TENSION

Abstract: This paper describes the behavior of the squirrel-cage induction motor (IM) which is connected directly to the electrical network, when it is exposed to voltage sags. To observe the behavior of the IM, some simulations will carry out using the professional software Matlab® with the PowerSystem Toolbox, it will be applied to the power system prototype. This prototype contains the main elements that compound a real power system.Through the simulation, different kinds of voltage sags will be generated at medium voltage level, which are apply to the IM through a low voltage electrical network. Also, the most relevant variables (electrical torque, speed, phase current) of the IM will be simulated for three different IM, with and without the voltage sags generated. The changes presented in those variables are correlated with the three-phase voltage sag severity to see the impact of the voltage sags over this kind of motor.

Resumen: En este artículo se estudia el comportamiento del motor de inducción (MI), tipo jaula de ardilla, conectado directamente a la red eléctrica frente a huecos de tensión. Para ello se simulará (utilizando la Toolbox PowerSystem de MATLAB®) un sistema de potencia prototipo el cual reúne, de manera simplificada, los principales elementos que componen un sistema de potencia real. Mediante dicha simulación se generan diferentes tipos de huecos de tensión en media tensión (MT), los cuales se transportan hasta el MI en baja tensión (BT) por medio de la red eléctrica. También se simulará el comportamiento de las variables más relevantes (par, velocidad y corrientes de fase) para tres motores diferentes, de este tipo, sin y con presencia de los huecos de tensión generados. Los cambios presentados en dichas variables se correlacionan con la severidad de los huecos de tensión trifásicos para ver el impacto de ellos sobre este tipo de motor.
