PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF A DATA LINK EMPLOYING INTERNET ACCESS CABLE

EVALUACION DE DESEMPEÑO DE UN ENLACE DE DATOS EMPLEANDO CABLE INTERNET ACCESS

Abstract: This paper presents an assessment of a data link implemented with Internet Access Cable communications technology. For its evaluation there are aspects that must be taken into account, like MTU and the size of the TCP window, which are required for the configuration of the performance assessing tools like iperf and DITG. The basic measurements required for assess a data link are Bandwidth, throughput and delays. The methods used on the measurements and the obtained results are presented, as well as the conclusions about the performance of the data link.

Resumen: El artículo presenta la evaluación de un enlace de datos implementado con la tecnología de comunicación Cable Internet Access. Para la evaluación se debe tener en cuenta aspectos como el MTU y el tamaño de la ventana TCP, requeridos para la configuración de herramientas de evaluación de desempeño como iperf y DITG. Las mediciones mínimas requeridas para evaluar un enlace de datos son ancho de banda, throughput y retardos. Se presentan los métodos utilizados para realizar las mediciones y resultados obtenidos, así como las conclusiones sobre el desempeño del enlace de datos.
