DESIGN OF A SURFACE ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC REGISTER TO QUANTIFY MOTORS UNITS IN THE FOOT DROP DISEASE

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for characterization of electromyographic signals applied to the quantification of motor units in patients with clinical presentation of foot drop. It carries out the design and implementation of an instrumentation system for the collection of electromyographic signals, the device is portable, has two channels sampling and six sensors (i.e. surface electrodes). We develop a graphical user interface (GUI), such is a tool to facilitate the handling of procedure and the application of signal treatment techniques such as wavelet transform to construct a set of features. The system can be used as a diagnostics tool to identify neuromuscular disease in people.

Resumen: En éste documento se presenta una metodología para la caracterización de señales electromiográficas aplicada a la cuantificación de unidades motoras en pacientes que presentan el cuadro clínico de pie caído. Se realiza el diseño e implementación de un sistema de instrumentación para la captación de señales electromiográficas; el dispositivo es portable, se compone de dos canales de muestreo y seis sensores (es decir, electrodos superficiales). Se desarrolla una interfaz gráfica de usuario (GUI), siendo ésta una herramienta que pretende facilitar el manejo del procedimiento, así como la aplicación de técnicas de tratamiento de señales tal como: la transformada Wavelet para la construcción de un conjunto de características. El sistema puede ser utilizado como herramienta de diagnóstico para identificar enfermedades neuromusculares en las personas.
