ADAPTIVE TEXTURE DESCRIPTION USIN PATTERN SPECTRUM AND MATHEMATICAL MORPHOLOGY

MÉTODO ADAPTIVO DE DESCRIPCIÓN DE TEXTURA UTILIZANDO EL PATRÓN ESPECTRUM Y LA MORFOLOGÍA MATEMÁTICA

Abstract: Mathematical morphology has been used in many tasks in image processing, such as filtering, enhancement, and even texture description, by using the shape-size distribution called Pattern Spectrum. In this paper an adaptive texture descriptor based on the Pattern Spectrum is proposed. The structuring element used to perform the operations to compute the Pattern Spectrum varies along the texture, by means of a distance criterion, in order to fit the texture around each pixel the best possible, that our adaptive proposal performs better in a 10% the classical Pattern Spectrum.

Resumen: La morfología matemática ha sido utilizada en diferentes tareas de procesamiento de imágenes, como el filtrado y en la descripción de la textura, usando el método denominado patrón espectrum. En este artículo se propone un descriptor adaptivo de textura basado en el patrón espectrum. El elemento estructurante usado permite realizar operaciones para procesar el patrón espectrum en varias formas y tamaños, por medio de un criterio de distancia, el cual se adapta a la superficie de la textura alrededor de cada pixel. Los resultados de la clasificación de textura dependen del tamaño del descriptor y su elemento estructurante, logrando que el método adaptivo de patrón espectrum mejore en un 10% la tasa de acierto al compararlo con el método tradicional.
