SOLAR POSITIONING SYSTEM PLATFORM USING LABVIEW AND THE PIC18F4550 MICROCONTROLLER

Abstract: This paper deals with the development of a solar positioning system using the Labview 8.6 platform and a PIC18F4550 microcontroller to increase the efficiency of an autonomous photovoltaic system (APS). To measure the variations of light radiation intensity using an array of 5 solar cells of the KYOCERA company's and 5 photodetectors. The system consists of a mechanism composed of two operators which together with the cells allow the positioning of the structure in the proper orientation. The acquisition board was developed with the PIC18F4550 microcontroller which has advantages in the speed response and only few instruction lines. The interface was developed in Labview 8.6 using the USB virtual-serial port, allowing manual and autonomous positioning control. The system speed is fast and accurate enough to changes of light radiation intensity.

Resumen: Este trabajo trata del desarrollo de un sistema de posicionamiento solar utilizando la plataforma de Labview 8.6 y el microcontrolador PIC18F4550 para elevar la eficiencia de los sistemas fotovoltaicos autónomos (SFA). Para la medida de las variaciones de intensidad de Luz se utiliza un arreglo de 5 celdas solares de la empresa KYOCERA combinada con 5 fotodetectores. El sistema se compone de un mecanismo formado por dos servomotores los cuales juntos con las celdas permitirán el posicionamiento de la estructura en la orientación adecuada. La tarjeta de adquisición se desarrolló con el microcontrolador PIC18F4550 que presenta ventajas en velocidad de respuesta y el número de líneas de instrucción. La interfaz se desarrolló en Labview 8.6 con la conexión USB de puerto virtual-serial, control de posicionamiento autónomo y manual. La velocidad del sistema es lo suficiente precisa y rápida ante los cambios de intensidad de la radiación lumínica.
