VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES IN OIL PUMPING CONTROL FOR REDUCING ENERGY COSTS

Abstract: Pumping systems design and construction are relevant to approach optimal
operational conditions required for oil liquid products transportation. To maintain optimal
pumping conditions, automatic controllers are employed, which use several control
techniques depending on system specifications. Control element is also relevant in order
to get reliable and economic hydraulic conditions. Throttle valves offer required process
conditions in spite of high pumps maintenance and energy costs. Moreover VFDs offer
the necessary energy for getting better hydraulic and cost effective advantages.

Resumen: Fundamentalmente, el diseño y construcción del sistema de bombeo marca las
pautas para lograr las condiciones hidráulicas requeridas para el transporte de
hidrocarburos líquidos. Estos parámetros se logran mantener por medio de controladores
automáticos, los cuales emplean diferentes técnicas de control dependiendo de cada
sistema específico. Otro aspecto importante es el elemento final de control empleado para
la regulación, el cual debe brindar condiciones hidráulicas aceptables, confiables y
económicas. Las válvulas proporcionales ofrecen condiciones deseadas en el proceso a
expensas de altos costos energéticos; además de elevar los costos de mantenimiento de
las bombas producto de la estrangulación como acción regulatoria. Por otra parte, los
variadores de frecuencia eléctrica proporcionan la energía justa para mantener mejores
condiciones fluido-dinámicas, evitando costos innecesarios.
