Abstract: Networks’ Performance Monitoring plays an essential role in the future evolution and in the optical industry deployment, because one of the successful keys of the New Generation Networks will be ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) and offering dynamic and differentiated optical services. This article studies the incidence of the parameters which affects optical signal quality on the performance of a WDM metropolitan network, by means of an adequate Optical Channel Monitoring (OCM).

Resumen: El monitoreo de desempeño de las redes juega un papel esencial en la futura evolución y en el despliegue de la industria óptica, ya que una de las claves del éxito de las redes de nueva generación será asegurar Calidad de Servicio (QoS) y ofrecer servicios ópticos dinámicos y diferenciados. Este artículo estudia la incidencia de los parámetros que afectan la calidad de la señal óptica en el desempeño de una red metropolitana WDM característica, a través de un adecuado Monitoreo del Canal Óptico (OCM).
